ROUTE DESCRIPTION AND SALIENT FEATURES
Valle Sacra routes offer both easy walks and more demanding treks to mountain peaks and passes, always sorrounded by precious views and the peculiar local history, enriched by legends witnessed by the fascinating sanctuaries and little chapels that also give the name to the Valley. Among them there are Piova Sanctuary, Santa Elisabetta Sanctuary, Belice Chapel and the “Malpasso” Chapel, dedicated to St. Ignatius, where the last basilisk, the legendary monster whose gaze could kill the travelers, is said being killed. The routes lead also to the huts of the old quartz mine at the foot of Punta Verzel, and run trought the places where Costantino Nigra, senator in the Kingdom of Italy and close aide of Camillo Cavour, lived.
