Canoe Stadium of Ivrea

The Ivrea Canoe Stadium is a river sports centre located in the city portion of the Dora Balteariver on the right orographic side. Channel characterised

by a capacity exceeding 20 m3 per second, with a slope of 3.7%. It is a stretch of water that is difficult, full of holes, important gradient differences, well defined death points or agitated waters. A possibility of controlling the flow using bulkheads located at the height of the Pontetto. The path is not loved by all athletes since it requires good physical preparation and knowledge of the difficulties.

Chiusella Torrent

Lake Candia

Canoeing is possible at Lake Candià. Surrounded by the morainic hills where the antique towns of Candia Canavese, Vische and Mazzé, the Candia lake is speckled with a thousand colours that change as the seasons progress. It is one of the most precious humid areas of Piedmont and, maybe of Italy, and therefore a protected area was created (provincial institution natural park). There are more than 400 flower species present, among them certain uncommon hydrophilic varieties. From the fauna point of view the greatest treasure is certainly represented by the avifauna. Located in the “South-Western route”, Lake Cadia is in fact an important stopping areas for wintered and passing birds.

Canoeing has been done on the lake since the end of the 19th century.

Lake Sirio

Located on the border with the Chiaverano Municipality, it is the only one of the 5 Lakes of Ivrea to be spring fed. It is nestled in a rocky hill area modelled in the Pleistocene by the Balteo Glacier. Its left side moraine (Serra d’Ivrea) dominates the landscape with its approximately 25 Km length. Surrounded by an alder wood, constitutes an ideal habitat for numerous vegetation and animal species typical of aquatic environments such as wild ducks, water gurnard, frogs and tree frogs.
Recommended period for activity: Spring through the beginning of Autumn

Lake Viverone

The meteorology of Lake Viverone is simple, there are 4 situations: föhn that can reach 50 knots approximately 12 days a year, South East 2-5 knots early afternoon for most of the year, wind coming from Serra during storms or absence of wind. The gushes of wind experience the effet of the coast and have a tendency to change direction frequently. There are possible scuffs and in windy days. The longest side of the lake is 3240 m and therefore it is possible to have regattas as well as naturalistic mini-cruises along the North-West shore, where motorised boating is prohibited. In order to understand turnout in this body of water, consider that there are at least 200 sail boats on the lake or the coast all the time!

Rio Piovano

The course of the Rio Piovano can be taken in ascent or descent. Choosing the descent, in order to start the itinerary it is necessary to undertake the road between farms that ascends from Tavagnasco to the Santa Maria MaddalenaaiPiani chapel. At the altitude of the farmhouses of Lower Usseglio (1112 m) you leave the road between farms and passing downstream from the homes you can enter the pathway that brings to the Salero grange. In approximately 15’ you reach the descent itinerary. The descent, very technical, requires knowledge of canyoning, using safety equipment and ropes for rappels for the vertical segments and use of rappels. This path gives significant satisfaction, alternating waterfalls, plates, water pools, terraces, pathway traces and finally gentle pastures. Difficulty: v3, a1, II.
